Halton Hikes has identified 26 farm markets and outdoor adventure sites to experience a real farm outing with heaps of hiking and great exercise

Halton Farms not only offer plenty of opportunities to get fresh produce but also provide great outdoor adventures that can be fun and quite active. Picking apples on a crisp fall day or juicy strawberries in the spring can create some unforgettable family memories. Buying and enjoying Halton-grown produce offers many benefits. When you support local farms, you’re helping to keep our agricultural industry and our economy healthy and prosperous. Enjoying locally grown fresh produce is also a tasty way to make better eating choices, and picking it yourself is a fun way to be active. You will be amazed at all the options you have for picking up farm-fresh products and enjoying a relaxing day of recreation at the same time. Agriculture in Ontario’s Greenbelt  is very important. It provides fresh and nutritious food, lessens our dependence on imported foods, and reduces transportation costs along with smog and greenhouse gases. With good support from urban consumers there is tremendous opportunity to open local food markets for Greenbelt farmers to deliver fresh foods to Ontario families.

Nature Calls  [Country Heritage Park]
Country Heritage Park is a great place to visit to learn more about agriculture in Ontario and hear the sounds of farming firsthand. This 32-hectare outdoor complex is managed by Country Heritage Experience Incorporated. Formerly known as the Ontario Agricultural Museum or The Farm Museum, the property contains display facilities and buildings relating to the heritage and evolution of agriculture in Ontario. Educational/interpretive programs and special events are conducted year round.

Halton Farm Tour

In partnership with Halton Region, Halton Hikes includes a separate fold-out map called A Guided Tour of Halton Farms.

This convenient guide features information on local farms where you can pick or purchase your own fruits and vegetables along with details about recreational activities. This quick and easy map makes a great companion to the Halton Hikes trail book.

Be sure to use your pedometer when visiting Halton farms. You will be surprised at how many footsteps you will take while enjoying the bounty of fresh  local food. The Guided Tour of Halton Farms is available free of charge from Halton Region, and is included with the book for your convenience.
